Professional Progression… Meet Georgina Pickles!

January 29, 2025

In the next edition of our “Professional Progression” series, we are excited to share Georgina’s journey so far at professional.

  • How did you get into working for a security company? And what made you want to work at professional?

I wanted to leave the practice sector and move into managing payroll for a single company, rather than multiple clients. It just so happened that this opportunity was within the security industry, which was completely new to me at the time. Despite this, I settled in quickly and found the role both engaging and rewarding. Over time, I’ve gained valuable experience and a deeper understanding of the industry, making it a great career move.

  • Give an overview of your role at Professional Security. What do you do daily?

My role is to ensure that the payroll department runs smoothly and that all deadlines are met efficiently. A significant part of my time is spent overseeing high-level processes, managing reporting, and ensuring compliance with financial regulations. I’m also heavily involved with business changes and acquisitions, which means adapting to new challenges and working closely with various teams to ensure seamless transitions. No two days are ever the same, and that’s what keeps the job exciting.

  • What’s the most enjoyable aspect of working at Professional Security?

It’s all about the people. At Professional Security, we’re like one big family. We support each other, whether it’s during busy periods at work or through personal challenges. Having a strong, connected team makes all the difference, creating an environment where people thrive. Success isn’t just about individual performance—it’s about lifting each other up and working together.

  • What advice would you give to someone on the frontline who wants to progress?

Be yourself and work hard. Dedication and consistency go a long way in any industry, but especially in security. Take pride in what you do, always look for opportunities to learn, and don’t be afraid to ask questions. Growth happens when you step out of your comfort zone and take on new challenges.

  • Tell me one surprising fact about you.

I always say there are no surprising facts about me because I’m an open book! However, if you spend enough time around me, you’ll quickly learn that I’m passionate about what I do and always up for a challenge. Whether it’s problem-solving at work or taking on new projects, I love finding ways to improve and make things more efficient. Maybe the most surprising thing is that I ended up in security payroll when it wasn’t the career path I originally had in mind—but it turned out to be exactly the right fit!
