Professional Progression… Meet Pete Johansen!

In the next edition of our “Professional Progression” series, we are excited to share Pete’s journey so far at professional.

• How did you get into working for a security company? And what made you want to work at professional?

Having previously worked in hospitality, I was looking for a career change. When I saw that Professional was hiring online, the role seemed like something I would genuinely enjoy, and it has proven to be just that.

• Give an overview of your role at Professional Security. What do you do daily?

I’ve recently transitioned within the company. I initially worked in the Solutions department, which then evolved into the Security Operations Centre (SOC). More recently, I moved to a new department, which came with a promotion to Vetting and Screening Supervisor. In this role, I now oversee the vetting team, conduct vetting checks, and ensure the business maintains compliance.

• Were you aware of the career opportunities available in the industry when you first started?

Honestly, when I first joined, coming from a management background, career progression wasn’t really on my radar. However, when I decided I wanted to move into a management role, I received fantastic support from my managers within the SOC department and from my current manager in the Vetting and Screening department.

• What’s the most enjoyable aspect of working at Professional Security?

No two days are the same! The days seem to fly by, especially working in a management role, which is the perfect environment for me to thrive and showcase my skills to their fullest potential.

• What’s the best career advice you’ve ever been given?

“You are capable of achieving anything once you set your mind to it. Experience isn’t everything; skills and personality are just as important.”

• What’s one piece of advice you would give someone who is currently working on the frontline and is wanting to progress?

Just go for it. There is absolutely nothing holding you back from achieving what you want for yourself.

• Tell us one surprising fact about you.

I once worked as an extra in a film! I had to stand outside at 4 am in fake pouring rain, holding one position for about half an hour. It’s definitely a day I won’t ever forget!
