Challenges

Managing security at Silverstone presents several operational challenges:

  • Short notice resourcing: Event schedules frequently change, requiring last-minute staffing amendments.
  • Access and logistics: The circuit’s remote location and heavy traffic cause delays for staff, public transport limitations, and congestion on major event days.
  • Limited local SIA resources: Recruiting experienced personnel locally can be difficult, especially during peak events.
  • Communication barriers: Remote location and reduced services during events impact coordination and operational oversight.

Our Solution

Professional Security and CMG have implemented a tailored approach to meet these challenges:

  • Local staffing: Employing local personnel provides flexibility for short-notice cover and reduces reliance on distant staff.
  • On-site accommodation: For large-scale events, staff are housed at the Silverstone campsite to avoid delays caused by traffic or transport issues.
  • Training & social value: Local recruits are offered development and SIA training opportunities as part of our Social Value initiatives.
  • Proactive planning: Recruitment strategies are aligned with the circuit’s evolving needs, with staffing plans reviewed and adapted continuously.
  • Operational technology: We maintain close communication with the Security Operations Centre and have invested in Starlink connectivity to provide Silverstone with a live operational dashboard for real-time monitoring and support.
  • Manual contingency: Paper backups and manual staffing schedules ensure coverage even during technology disruptions.

Impact & Results

  • Seamless security coverage for high-profile global events, including Formula 1 British Grand Prix.
  • Enhanced operational efficiency and flexibility through local recruitment and on-site accommodation.
  • Real-time operational visibility via the live dashboard, reducing risk and improving incident response.
  • Positive community impact through training and development opportunities for local individuals, supporting social value objectives.
  • Strong partnership with Silverstone and CMG, enabling trust and consistent delivery year after year.
