No Guard Alone – Because no guard should carry the weight of their struggles alone.

Calculating...

Frontline security officers protect venues, assets, and the public every day. But who’s protecting them?

We are proud today to launch a first-of-its-kind campaign designed to tackle male suicide in the security industry.

Why We’re Taking Action

The reality is stark:

– One in five people have considered suicide at some point in their lives.

– Suicide is the leading cause of death for men under 50 in the UK.

– Every single day in England and Wales 12 men die by suicide.

– Men are three times more likely to die by suicide than women.

– Most of those men, their families, their friends, even their GPs had no idea they were struggling.

In male-centric industries like ours, these risks are four times higher. There are over 350,000 SIA licensed men under the age of 50 working in security across the UK. Some work alone. Many work nights. All are expected to deal with abuse, aggression and violence every day.

For too long, male suicide in our sector has been treated as tragic, but inevitable. At Professional Security, we refuse to accept that.

No Guard Alone is our commitment to changing this, ensuring that no guard ever has to face their struggles in silence and no manager will feel powerless to help. This is about moving from silence to support, stigma to systems, and isolation to community. It’s about redefining what strength looks like in our sector.

Our Approach

We’re tackling this challenge head-on, with support from Tough to Talk, a UK charity specialising in reducing male suicide. Together, we are building a system of support that is practical, scalable, and rooted in real experiences.

This is not a tick box exercise. We’re not adding another badge to someone’s lanyard and hoping for the best. We’re building a whole new system of care inside our company.

This is designed to scale beyond Professional Security. This is not about creating a unique selling point for us. This is about leading the sector so that other companies adopt it too.

Breaking the Silence: We’ve started with Signature Tough Talks – expert-led, facilitated sessions that create safe spaces for open conversations about mental health. These sessions are designed to tackle stigma and help everyone in our business speak up when they’re struggling.

Training Tough Talkers: Our frontline managers including Area Managers, Operations Managers and City Supervisors are being trained as Tough Talkers. They are equipped to spot early signs of crisis, intervene safely, and provide meaningful support. This isn’t generic mental health training; it’s tailored specifically to the high-stakes, high-pressure nature of security work.

Using Data to Save Lives: We’re introducing the Tough to Talk app to our team, enabling anonymous reporting of pressures, conversations, and interventions. This crucial data will give us a clear picture of where support is needed, allowing us to respond proactively and continuously improve our systems. By identifying patterns, themes, and hotspots, this data will shape and strengthen the campaign, ensuring support is responsive, effective, and continuously improving. This approach makes the campaign intelligent, future-proof, and scalable, helping us design better services, adapt support, and ensure no one falls through the cracks.

Our Vision

We want to create a ripple effect across the entire security industry. No Guard Alone is designed to be scalable.  Other companies can adopt our model, expand the support network and ultimately save lives.

For us, success isn’t measured in policies or posters. It’s when:

  • A guard finishes a shift feeling truly seen and supported.
  • A manager intervenes with confidence, knowing exactly how to help.
  • Another suicide is prevented – not by luck, but by design.
  • The industry as a whole begins to prioritise the mental wellbeing of its people.

We’re going to make sure our leadership team models openness from the top down.

We’re going to measure not just how many people we train, but how many lives we touch.

David Fullerton - CEO - Professional Security

"I know from lived experience that finding courage to open up is life changing. From this moment forward, at Professional Security, no guard should feel like they’re carrying the weight of their struggles alone. This isn’t about looking good; it’s about doing good. We are protecting our people with the same commitment we give to protecting the public.”

About Our Partner

Tough to Talk is a UK charity dedicated to reducing male suicide by breaking down stigma and creating practical, real-world support systems. Their expertise ensures we can reach the men behind the mask – those showing up every day, holding it together on the outside, but struggling internally.

They stand out because of their direct, no-nonsense approach to mental health. They speak the language of the men they aim to help, making their resources approachable and relatable.

No Guard Alone is more than a campaign; we believe that this is a movement. And it starts here, at Professional Security, by protecting the protectors.
