When a child is seriously ill in hospital, the last thing a family should have to worry about is where they’re going to stay.

Ronald McDonald House Charities UK provides free ‘home away from home’ accommodation for families with children receiving treatment in nearby hospitals. By allowing parents, siblings and loved ones to stay just moments away from their child, the charity helps families remain together during some of the most challenging times of their lives.

Each House offers far more than a place to sleep. It provides comfort, support and a sense of normality, with welcoming communal spaces, private bedrooms, kitchens and family facilities that allow families to focus on what matters most, Being together.

Every member of the team contributes to creating a safe, caring and compassionate environment. As a Security Officer, you’ll be an important part of that experience, helping families feel welcomed, reassured and supported from the moment they arrive.

This isn’t a role where you’ll simply stand at a door. It’s about welcoming families with empathy, offering reassurance when someone is having a difficult day, maintaining a safe and secure environment, and being someone people can rely on. Every interaction matters.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Providing a welcoming, professional presence for families, visitors and staff.
  • Maintaining the safety and security of the House and its occupants.
  • Carrying out regular patrols and security checks.
  • Managing access control and visitor enquiries.
  • Responding calmly and professionally to incidents when required.
  • Supporting House staff in creating a safe, caring and respectful environment.
  • Building positive relationships with families whilst always maintaining appropriate

What we’e looking for: 

  • We’re looking for someone who combines professionalism with genuine compassion.
  • A valid SIA Door Supervisor licence (essential).
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • A calm, approachable and empathetic nature.
  • The ability to remain composed in sensitive situations.
  • Strong observational skills and attention to detail.
  • Previous security experience in hospitality, healthcare, residential or customer- facing environments would be advantageous.
