Security Office Career Path: Finlay’s Journey at Professional Security
In our ongoing Professional Progression series, we’re excited to share Finlay’s security office career path at Professional Security. His journey highlights growth, adaptability, and the wide range of career opportunities available within the business.
How Finlay Got Into the Security Industry
I honestly stumbled into the security industry.
A recruitment company contacted me about a temporary role with Professional Security on a major project. They described it as a fun, supportive workplace and a great company to join, which sparked my interest.
From my very first day, I felt welcomed and supported by the team. It quickly became clear that this was a company where I could grow and build a long-term career.
Finlay’s Role at Professional Security
My official title is Front Desk Receptionist, but my role covers far more than reception duties.
On a daily basis, I:
Manage tech orders such as radios and body cameras
Support Operations with equipment and logistics
Organise compliance documents and site files
Collect and manage client testimonials
Coordinate office maintenance and health & safety updates
Book travel for team members
Support Finance with expense management
The variety keeps the job interesting, and no two days are ever the same.
Career Opportunities in Security
When I first started, I didn’t realise how many career pathways exist in the security industry — especially within Professional Security.
The company is very open about progression, whether you want to develop in office-based roles or move into operational and field positions. Knowing there’s always room to grow is incredibly motivating.
What Finlay Enjoys Most About Working at Professional
One of the most rewarding parts of my role is seeing the company grow — and knowing I’m part of that journey.
Attending our company conference a couple of years ago really highlighted how far we’ve come, from new initiatives to our charity and community work. The strong team culture and shared values make it a genuinely great place to work.
Best Career Advice Finlay Has Received
The best career advice I’ve ever received is to “stand out from the crowd.”
That advice really stuck with me. When I was offered my reception role, it was because someone noticed my positivity, energy, and welcoming personality. Being authentic and letting my character show has opened doors I never expected.
Advice for Frontline Staff Wanting to Progress
If you want to move forward in your career, put yourself out there and build connections.
Use platforms like LinkedIn, reach out to colleagues in roles you aspire to, and take initiative. For example, if you’re a door supervisor aiming to become an Area Manager, connect with the Operations team and learn from them.
Growth opportunities exist — but you have to take the first step.
A Surprising Fact About Finlay
Most people wouldn’t guess that I grew up on a farm — and still live on one!
Despite my corporate role and love for long nails, I’m very outdoorsy. I love camping, and nothing beats waking up to a field full of Highland cattle.
Final Thoughts on Finlay’s Journey
Working at Professional Security has been a journey full of learning, growth, and opportunity. I’m grateful to be part of a company that supports progression and encourages people to make a real impact.
I’m excited to see what the future holds.
